3 port boost control solenoid
I have an MY02 STi UK.
Can somebody tell me about 3 port boost control solenoids, does my car have one, if not, what do I need to fit one and is it a case of plugging in to the existing wiring and it works. Where do I start looking for what i need.
I read they are better than the 2 port ones as they normally give better torque by sharper boost control.
Thanks,
Regards,
Nick.

your car has a 2port solenoid.
you have to alter wiring to fit a 3port, but like for like 2 wire connections..
you may need some additional rubber hose to replace the 2port set up, you can reuse just ensure you remove the restrictor from the pipe between T piece and compressor cover.
the need is only when increasing the boost when remapping the boost control is better on the 3port etc..
the 3port connects (using an OE Subaru 3port) top port to compressor cover, middle to actuater and bottom to inlet pipe.
You can get Oe 3port from the early car 93~96 from a breaker or a new unit is reasonably priced from america, or you can use an Apexi 3port solenoid for example.

Thanks Simon,
Will the 3 port solenoid operate the same as the 2 port as in once its all fitted correctly, I'll have the same boost pressure as previous or will it need setting up? (remapped?)
Cheers,
Nick.

if on standard map then it should, if remapped you need to ask who mapped it as if the duty is high to achieve current boost on 2port it will over boost on 3port

I seen these prodrive ones on American sites and it says they are direct plug in ones. Has anyone used these?
