Default Air Con Pump Knackered

My air com pump has given up the ghost. It sounds like a bearing and is making hell of a racket. Can i just remove the air con belt and continue driving the car untill i either decide to get a new pump or remove the air con system completely?

Thanks
James

if it was my car and the belt didnt run anytihg els like alternator (cant remember without looking) i would go for it see if noise stopped it should just run like a car without aircon.. dose it make noise wether swithched on or off? because the internals of the pump dont turn till switch is pressed and the clutch on the pump pully engages might be just pump pully bearing and could just cange that not the internals

Thanks for the reply Andy. It turns out after looking in daylight the belt on the air con pump also seem to turn the water pump pulley so i definately wont be removing the belt afterall.

Thanks
James

Ah you are probably right. I was just a bit paranoid as the water pump is sat right behind it lol.
