Default High Miles Impreza

Hi,

I'm looking to buy an Impreza 2000 Turbo, around a 98 to 00 plate. I'm new to then so I just wanted to find out how people feel about high mileage examples (100K+). Any common faults that I should look out for? What sort of prices should I reasonably be expecting to pay? Obviously a fsh is a must but any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Hey up mate.
I've got a my98 uk turbo, its done 120k and still going strong (touch wood!). I get it serviced every 6 months a TSL Motorsport, and while its still going strong i'll continue to do so. On 100k + miles on an Impreza you need to look out for rattly exhaust heatshields, worn anti roll bar drop links, but other than that just the usual things to check.
In my opinion stay away from 98 models (ver 4) as its harder to tune because you can't remap ecu so you'll have to swap to a standalone unit, aswell as that if you don't mind imports, get a jap import impreza as they're better spec and more power.
As a lot of other members on Scoobynet will say, buy on condition and not on mileage as Subaru's will go and go as long as they're looked after.
ps forgot to say, make sure its had its timing belt one as these are expensive to buy and difficult to change (should be done every 45k).
Good luck in your search

Mines is a MY00 UK car sitting on 127500 miles now. I don't know what it's worth, but all seems to be fine. I do all the servicing myself as I think the mileage doesn't warrant dealer servicing, plus I think I take a bit more care that way. I just had the gearbox re-built about 2000 miles ago, but this was due to the common 5th gear locknut coming loose and causing the 5th gear cog on the mainshaft to split into 3 pieces. Watch out for a crunch when changing into 5th, mine was doing it for ages before it failed.
