Default 18" or 19" wheels and a spare

Anyone sorted the above issue regarding running 18's or 19's and the oe spare as its now useless. Do people run without spare or buy another expensive same size alloy?

Why is the spare no useless? I have 19" wheels and have used the OEM spare with no problems. It is only for emergency use afterall.

Erm, I thought there was diff issues as the size in height and rolling radius after totally different (about an inch looking from eye)...

If this is right, smaller wheels do more revolutions over the same distance of tarmac, but then they're on the same axle?

Actually, I wonder if it would, as diffs are there to allow you to go round bends which means one wheel travels further than the other...no?

So hard to tell, but wouldn't want to risk a diff to prove it.

you may well be correct - but note 'emergency use only' !!!

i had to use mine to drive (at 45mph!) 7/8 miles to get a new tyre fitted after i ripped the sidewall open. Very scary and only ever again in an emergency

Yeh but what happens if it goes pop miles away from anywhere? Would you run her with spare for that long? I just wonder if anyone has had diff problems after this or if the people that previously said about this problem were just using the theory side?

Well i have one of those naff space saving wheels.. same difference i guess.

I once ran an MG ZS 5 miles on a flat tyre cos i needed to get somewhere (sex was on the cards ok). That mashed the wheel/tyre and wheel bearing.. Don't you love fleet cars

I have a can of tyre weld instead of the spare. I have had to use tyre weld once when I picked up a nail on the M3. safely got me 50 miles home. If it is more than a puncture.......thats why I have breakdown cover

Couldnt justify the cost of another alloy just as a spare

I was thinking that earlier, if you run a car one tyre flat then the rolling diameter is loads difference, so spare and 18's/19's must be fine...

Cheers guys.
