Default Missing at Low Revs, and "ticking" dash ?

Hope someone's seen this before and can point me in the right direction.....

MY95 UK Turbo

Recently started to missfire which I though I had diagnosed as a coil pack which had a cracked insulation sheath.
However, since replacing the coil pack with a second hand item, the misfire has got a lot worse.
At low revs (1000-1500) the car sometimes judders badly with what seems like an ignition problem. At the same time I can hear what sounds like a relay "ticking" under the dash (drivers side) as the revs rise and fall erratically.

This problem can also happen at higher revs, and then feels like fuel cut.

I know the tendancy would be to suspect the replacement coil pack, but the "ticking" wasn't present before......I'm hoping it's just a relay failing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

you need to replace all four coil packs at the same time with new ones..

it really is false economy replacing one, the car will run a lot better on four new ones, if one has failed then the others are very close too.. the cracking is not the only problem they break down inside.

the clicking is probably related to something else, ie. the revs dropping to idle speed etc..

The only other thing worth checking is the earthing to the engine.. put a jump lead from battery negative to engine block and see if it improves but I suspect the problem is the coil packs, earthing problems aren't usually that bad.

Also check for error codes.. look in my help pages JollyGreenMonster.co.uk

The clicking is your boost solenoid.

I had this problem when i bought my second scooby.Try replacing the plugs first before any expensive coil packs.

Thanks for the replies.....

I'm pretty sure that the coil packs are the main problem....but I'm still unsure about the clicking noise from the dash.

It sounds like a relay switching..... and is definitley not from the engine bay.

Could the fuel pump relay have anything to do with all this ?

Thanks

on of the relays will be clicking because of the misfire etc.. you lift off or the revs change etc..

I had exactly the same problem when the wrong spark plugs had been put in my car. Each time there was a misfire, I would hear the clicking noise from the dash.

As soon as I had them replaced the noise went away.

I'm sure as soon as you replace your coil packs the problem will go away.
