Default Need my thoughts confirmed

Ive been told my MAF is dead.

In the last few days before the limp mode started. The car would idle normal if the car was driven sensible. But if the car was given a bit of a hammering the idle would hunt a little from 0 rpms upto 1000 rpms, when the rev needle hit the 0 rpms the check engine light would flicker for a split second. The idle hunting would last for about 5 to 10 seconds.

The car is fitted with an Apexi kit, because of the front mount intercooler.
I fitted a small bonnet scoop to replace one of the bonnet vents a couple of days ago. The car ran well, getting full boost through all the gears.

Until last night, went out lastnight in the car in massive down pour, car went into limp mode. The revs wont go past 5000 rpms and check engine comes on.

Took off the air cone this morning, its wet inside the cone. Dried it out. Took off MAF cleaned it out, cleaned out boost solenoid. Reset the ecu, no check light problem showing. Took the car for a spin, goes back into limp mode again.

So can I take from all this the MAF is dead then ?

**UPDATE**

Done another reset on the ecu, made no difference. So I disconnected the car battery for a few hours, took the car a long drive and no limp mode. Im a happy chappy at the moment. But still will be buying another MAF after I buy the road tax this month

the 96 maf is fairly robust.. usually not a problem.. perhaps taken long while to fully dry?
