if its an import check for signs the mileage isnt accurate ie mileage numbers not lined up correcly and check interior etc for signs of wear, poor condition because when i went to look at a 95 import with low miles you could tell straight away it had been clocked(because theres alot of people doing it)
if its got a recent mot then proably most of the basics are ok i.e brakes, exhaust etc,but check anyway.
service history and cambelt changed.
vital to test drive from cold and listen for any strange noises smoke etc after starting from cold.(if he knows what time you are coming and the engine is even slightly warm then be cautious)
check for any oil leaks and check for any oil in the water and finally any little things that will cost you, ie tyres with not much life left on them etc.
im sure someone with more tech knowledge can add more
and if all else fails you can always buy mine £2995
