Default small oil filter..does it matter...?

hi all iv been searching this to no avail so thought id ask outright..
I ordered a genuine subaru oil filter for my wrx wagon only to recieve a smaller filter than my original. As far as i have found out this is simply because subaru have the oil filters made in smaller canisters by whichever manufacturers so will it make a difference to fitting it on my car..
All im worried about is comprimising the oil filters performance or worst luck it leaking due to not seating properly..
So could anybody clear this matter up for me, many thanks
Sy

If its a Genuine Subaru one it will fit with no issues...these are usually smaller than cheaper after market filters youd buy from a motor factors, but if subaru put their name on it its going to do the job its meant too.
