Question WRX crank vs STi 6 crank

Hi guys

i tried a search, but as i'm not a paid up member, i only have access to the google search through scoobynet, and can't get very specific.

I've ran a big end bearing on my STi ver 6. Considered going 2.5 but read up a lot of info on that and decided i'd rather stick with my 2.0.

Question is, can i use a later model WRX crank that will match up to the STi 6 crankshaft? I've heard conflicting reports... looking at a 2003 upwards crank. Apparently the STi 6 crank is really good but is older technology, and so a WRX (blobeye) crank is just as good..

any truth to this????

Sti 9 is the one to go for, it's also nitrided for strength and will fit straight in, i've just put one in my MY99

Ok, will have a look around for an STi 9 crankshaft. But i'm also considering costs here, and that's why i was asking if a later WRX crank is just as good as an STi 6 crank.

The car doesn't see any track work, and is not driven hard. Occasionally have a few chances to give it a good boosting but even then the car is cooled down.

For this reason i was willing to go with a WRX crank if it stands up to the task.. so question is still out.. is the WRX 2003 > crank just as good as an STi 6 crank?

ok so i'm struggling to find a STi9 crank. Can get my hands on an STi crank though not sure which one.

Can somebody please advise me how to identify it as an STi crank (and not WRX)..? Visual checks..

The latest WRX crank is as good as the older STi6 crank, which was just a standard crank anyway.

If you struggle locally, I have both in stock.

Managed to get a bottom-end from a MY2003. Think this is STi 8. From reading anothe thread, i thikn the pistons will probably sit lower deck than my STi 6 pistons.. i'm sure i can tune around it.
