2.5 STI short block, Standard heads etc
Free flowing uprated headers(wrapped or not?)
Uprated up-pipe
vf34 with ported wastegate
PPP sports cat
De-resonated centre section
4.5 inch jap style scoobytek rear box
Green panel filter

I uprated to a VF34 turbo a while back.I dont suppose anyone knows how much bhp they are good for? Think I might go down the 2.5L bottom end route in spring and would hate for the turbo to let me down on the power side.
I was thinking bigger injectors, fuel pump, forged pistons front mount intercooler and +.

Sound like a hefty set of mods you have there n*ufo hope you get the figures you wat in the end.

If you get uprated headers, these usually come with an up-pipe too, so no need to buy a separate one. I'd say wrap them as well, as it keeps the heat in the exhaust gasses rather than in the engine bay.

Also, I'm not sure if you need to uprate your centre section, but your mapper will tell you for sure

BOV's are bad for driveability apparently. I'm running no dump valve at all at the moment, and at light throttle and when lifting off and then going back on throttle again there's some jerkiness (I don't personally care about that at the moment, but worth keeping in mind).

Why are you going the 2.5 route? The 2.0L sti is more than capable upto 400BHP
fitting an 18G or a 20G to a MY03 sti will see you where you want to be.
A set of ported and wrapped headers and up pipe from Harvey Smith will make boost earlier and more free flowing.
Possibly think about an uprated clutch. Also lighten you flywheel to help it all rev more freely.
Green filter and resonator removal should be fine at the level you arte looking for
Possibly need a 3 inch exhaust, you need to check with your mapper.
I have a turbosmart bov, its a dual port and causes no issues at all with fuelling, it recircs as normal when driving around steady and then VTAs and recircs when driving hard.

I'm interested in going the way of the 2.5 because my engine has gone pop and the 2.5 short block can be bought for peanuts!, Besides this I had a ride in 2.5 sti a few months ago and was very impressed by the torque, both the amount and deliverey,The above mods are what I picked up on the internet from various sources, just hoping that I'll get a few more opinions before take the plundge!

You need to drive a 2.5 based newage then ask yourself the same question.

Our 2.5ltr based JDM STi is about to undergo a rebuild so only last week I put a 2.0ltr based engine back in to keep it mobile........... I now constantly have to work the box to make any progress whereas before I could ride the wave of torque from 30mph in 6th and any overtaking now requires a gear change

Maybe I'm a little lazy but all lardy newages should be 2.5

I have driven one, when I rebuilt my classic at the time the 2.5 was the new in thing, and I still ended up with a bullet proof 2L instead.
I think even with the newage sti i like having to work at it to keep it on boost.

I will be intouch soon as I am looking at a remap when I fit the 18G, also do you do clutches?

Just out of interest what is your opinion of my planned mods,Am I being a bit optimistic about the power/torque acheiveable and would you be happy to map the setup?
Thanks!

Can a VF34 go to 360??? Personally i'd be looking towards an 18g for that sort of power, maybe even a 20g
