Default cat in up-pipe?

hi was just wondering if there was some sort of cat in my up-pipe, or anything that would restrict the flow of gases?

i have a 1994 wrx jap import, i'v looked at the up-pipe on the car, and to me it doesnt look to have a cat on it physically, but it has the heat shield round it that cant be taken off unless i cut it off.

anyone any clues.

Cheers.

the only cars with an up-pipe cat are the new-age WRX's from 2001>

your car can be improved upon but certainly isn't the first thing to look at
