Default 2004 Outback Big Ends gone at 50,000mls

I have just been told that my big ends have gone on my 2004 2.5SE Outback.

I have never had an oil light on, an engine over-heating or as far as I know run short of oil, and I have also always had the car serviced within approx 1,000 miles of its service date.

The car appears to have a knocking noise when accelerating quickly past about 40-45 mph, but the car still seems to accelerate as normal and still gets upto its normal cruising speed on motorways etc without any difficulty.

It does not seem as noisy when I accelerate a bit more slowly.

Could this knocking noise be anything else, as I always thought that these were tried and tested engines and to effectively require a new engine at less than 50,000 miles seems to me to be wrong.

Is it also worth me approaching my local dealer to get them to check it out and for them to contact Subaru on my behalf, as it looks like it could be very costly.

By the way, I am not a boy racer.

Any help would be appreciated.

if its only on faster acceleration then i would suggest a 2nd opinion...............
generally the big-end noise is revs related rather than build up speed, quite often you will also hear them briefly from cold start
