Default induction kit cleaning

hi all, ive got a k & n induction kut on my scooby and was wondering how i tell if the cone filter needs cleaning/replacing. and if it does need a clean whats the best way of doing it?

k+n produce oil to clean their filters i think halfords sell it.

Basically it should be a kind of dark red to start off with. If it looks bloody filthy or has gone black or grey, it needs cleaning. As above, Halfords sell it, or plenty of online places. you get a kit with cleaner and reoiling stuff.
