Hi all could someone tell me what this is i think it a oil catch tank or am i wrong . Any help would be great

Sorry wrong with the oil catch can. Its a carbon cannister. Its there to take fuel vapours so that they dont enter the atmosphere. Lol. Can be removed if your not worried about the green issue

Carbon canister (recently had to ask about this myself on my car and was told carbon this is on a 93wrx though)

Possibly. Lol. we just call them all carbon canisters in the trade, I guess thats what the early ones had in them and the name has just stuck.

i dont know to be honest whether there charcoal or carbon

Well charcoal is a form of carbon! They actually contain activated charcoal (same as in fan cooker hood filters) they catch any fuel vapour from the tank and then the fumes are drawn back into the engine, worth between 3 and 10% fuel economy depending on temperature and fuel volatility.
