Default Big End Question??

Hi this may sound like a strange question but does anyone know if it is possible to replace big end bearings on a 1996 JDM EJ20 (engine is not yet knocking but has done 100,000+ miles) by simply removing the sump + the baffle & unbolting the rods from the crank etc to slip the bearings out that way?

I have seen this done on a nissan motor before, however thought I might ask if anyone here can see that it would be possible before removing my sump and getting messy as this is my 1st ej20.

Engine out job due to being horizontally opposed. Your unable to access all conrod bolts without splitting the block.
