poor rebuild, debris in intercooler or intake from last failure, bearing failure leading debris from inside the engine.

wire range of possibilities really, what made you strip it in the first place?

Default funny noise

coming back from bridlington on motoway it made a funny like poof noise and smoke came out exhaust drove ok tho to get home, next day it started but sounded funny on start up took oil cap off and smoke was coming out. when it got stripped all piston rings were like melted into piston some worse than others so got re-bored and new pistons and bearings, an gaskets and so on.
thanks dan

The 2 favourites would be debris from previous blow up not washed out as stated above (Everything needs to be washed out, all the galleries in crankcase/head/crank etc) or insuficient piston/bore clearance i.e the borer/builder doing a poor job.

As far as I understand... a re-ground crank on a subaru is a no no... I'd get yourself a new crank and build it up again... a re-ground crank is borrowed time on a Subaru... OK if your just selling it on quick... not for the new owner though...

From my experience... if your keeping the car, the only way to do it properly is to replace everything... ££££ I know its costs... but it'll cost less in the long run...

spoke to drakes today the mark on cylinder is too bad needs a new liner
he was saying should get another block rather than re line it but they would say that eh. asa for piston easy repair just a small burr on inner edge.
