Default Problems with car.........

Driving from Wallsend to Whitley Bay today, checked temp gauge just to make sure the car was warm, before upping the revs a bit and WOAH!!!!! The gauge was not 2 kicks off hot. Pulled into a bus stop, hazards on, checked under bonnet. Rad pipes hot, heater matrix pipes cold, and heaters blowing cold. Took the car to Tyne Tyres on Tanners Bank, where the owner happened to be in (I sort of know him, as his Mother lived in the Nursing home I used to work in), and got me to pull into a bay. Mechanic checked her over, and topped up coolant by TWO LITRES+!!!!!! I have noticed oil dripping onto the maniold, as I explained to Alyn, but havnt seen any signs before that i was losing water, this just happened all of a sudden. Although, I did notice a lot of vapour in my exhaust tailpipe on way to NBO. HELP!!!! ANy clues??? If this cr*p carries on, I might just sell the car and go back to driving cr*ppy 1.2s

Im worried now. Just checked the "glass next to exhaust" thingy as metioned in a thread on TTS. Steamed up straight away what does this mean??? Also, the coolant has gone right down AGAIN, even though I only drve it 3 miles after topping up! AND when the engine is warm, the heater vents smell funny and the coolant looks white frothy........

Check you oil that will give you the answer, if you have lost that much water and through the head gasket the oil level could have risen or will definalty have signs of water contamination.

Does it stil over heat ?
How is the car running ?
How fast does the temp rise from cold ?
Have you 100% confirmed no leakage else where or from inside the car?

Isnt overheating. Temp rises QUICKLY. Car runs okay, I THINK! Is no sign of water in OR under the car.

Ideally you want a compression test done now to confirm. You could have just been low on water of a sticking thermo etc but from what you have said above its sounding more like the head gasket.
