Default 22B widetrack setup

Hi all,

I'm in the planning phase to build a "22B wagon" which will of course include a 22B wide arch kit. The car I'm starting off with is a 97 euro-spec WRX wagon.

In order to widen the track without deteriorating handling, it is paramount to actually do so by other means than just a smaller wheel offset (ET05 i.o. ET48 for instance). Indeed, just pushing the wheels out is bad for the bearings and gives bad dynamic handling.

If we look at the actual 22B, it appears it uses 17x8,5 ET35 wheels i.o. the 7 inch wide, ET48 standard wheels. After a quick calculation, that gives me already an extra 2 centimeters on each side.

If I then adopt the new age front arms (triangles) it gives me yet another 2 cm on each side.

That's already +4cm, however the 22B wide arches give room for more widening!

So I was wondering if you could help me widen the track further?

As a starter, what specific parts does a 22B use to widen it's track?

Same for the rear : I'm intending to use a full STI9+ rear setup, including hubs, bearings, hub housings, arms, diff, driveshafts, subframes, droplinks. That should as well give an extra 2-3 cm.

Any advice appreciated !

I think you are about there.

As i read the header of your question I simply thought 'fit the latest running gear totally'

There is a guy in the USA doing what you are. He is a body shop owner.

If you fit Whiteline transverse lower rear arms the track can be spread a touch more, but the driveshafts/CV's could run out of length so beware.

I have never seen a detailed description/pics of the 22B chassis/components. Seems to be undisclosed in print.

Graham.
