Default Standard airbox setup on MY97 sti 3

Having finally sourced the correct air-box and flexi pipe for my sti, I am a bit stumped when it comes to fitting. Airbox is no problem, its the pipe that goes after the maf. The sti I bought has a shiney zero sports inlet pipe. But, as far as I remember, didn't the standard pipe connect up with the PCV? (Oil mist in crank-case recirculation.) Havn't got the pipe yet to have a go. Should get it monday.
Any ideas or experiences?

Regards
Chris

The standard black plastic inlet pipe has a take off close to the turbo which connects to the crankcase breather. It doesn't directly connect to the pcv. It also has a two connections at the front end; the one on the side (near the PS tank) connects to the rocker cover breather pipe; the one on top connects to the idle valve via a set of hard and rubber pipes that run over the top of the manifold.

Cheers mate, I wonder where the pipes have been put since the zero sports pipe was fitted. Have to go and have a look.

Good question. Essentially metered fresh air is drawn out of the inlet pipe into the rocker covers and out of the crankcase breather, back into the inlet tract either at the inlet pipe just before the turbo, or through the PCV valve directly into the inlet manifold. Either way, it's a sealed system using metered air that has already been through the MAF sensor.

Most likely it's all just been vented to atmosphere. Alternatively it could have all been blocked up which wouldn't be too good.
