Question Remapping a 1999 STI Version 5....

I heard that a pre 1996 ECU can be remapped thanks to some new software that has been released.

Is there anything new available with regards to remapping the post 1996 ECU's? Or are ECUTEK & APEXI PFC the only ways to remap a 1999 Version 5 STI?

That's correct. Ecutek is the cheapest at around £650. The Apexi FC at around £850, then you start getting in the link/gems territory at £1500+!
Depends what you want out of the car but ecutek is considered fine upto 450bhp.

The new software you mention is by ESL that a number of us are now mapping with.
But it is only for pre96.

Options for 99 is Apexi, Ecutek or Link, GEMs, Motec etc

If I had the Apexi ECU could I fit it myself? By that I mean does it just plug in the place of the factory ECU, ready for mapping or is there more to the installation?

Would a remap then cost around £250? I can get an Apexi for £340 which makes about £600 all in. This sounds a very appealing move to make if it's possible.

Thanks for your advice

it wont be a remap though with it being your first map so I would imagine it would cost you a bit more for the initial map

Yes it does plug straight in.. but I never charge for fitting and safer to plug it in and remap it straight way etc..

I charge £250 for an Apexi remap yes.
