Default PAS Fluid "Cooler" on classic

I was tidying up some bits in the engine bay last night and I noticed the power steering fluid seems to flow through a pipe across the front of the bay then it loops back round, is this some form of crude cooling? I never noticed this on the older classics..

Basically the pipe is looking rather sorry for its self, and if its pretty much pointless i'll ditch it and join it striaght up to the pump

Cheers.

I noticed the same thing. I think it is some kind of expansion system.

Good I think I'll junk it... its just looking rusty and ugly at the moment and will no doubt burst at some point

My Leggy doesn't have one of these........ but after a track session yesterday, i'm considering one as the fluid blew out all over the place.....

must have been giving it some stick

are there alternatives to just a 'straight pipe' ?

new age ones have fins around the pipe to trap the air to aid cooling.
