Default 55reg STi essential mods?

New here as posted elsewhere.

What MY will the above be 05 or 06 and how do I find out if I need to check?

The car is standard, 14k miles.

What mod is the most popular/recommended first bearing in mind warranty?

Am I limited to PPP becoz of warranty?

Are these cars in need of turbo timers or are they OK if the normal turbo respect is given?

Thanks again

If it's the Blobeye shape then it will be MY05 55plate, unless it was a very early Hawkeye which were MY06.

PPP is the only fully warranty safe performance mod you can do, but some dealers will be OK about other mods. It will however be out of their hands in the event of a big claim and will possibly be inspected by a Subaru UK/IM offical prior to authorisation, so the risk is yours to take.

I'd go with PPP and focus more on the handling and braking to make a faster road car than many of the unbalanced big-power straight-line machines out there.

My usual route would be....Pads (Ferodo DSPF or Pagid Blue), Goodridge SS braided lines and DOT5.1 fluid. Whiteline 22mm rear ARB on stiffest setting with solid droplinks. AST coilovers with a good geo set-up. To take it further it would need adjustable topmounts and the front ARB and links, 24mm rear bar.

Best mod of all, driver training. Learn Roadcraft and/or get some tuition from the likes of Don Palmer.

Newage cars had revised turbo lubrication, negating the need for turbo timers. A little respect to the mechanical bits with regards to warming her up before blatting her and cooling things down before stopping (try and stay under 3k revs for 1st and last 20 mins) will keep things sweet.

Thanks,

Is the PPP worth the dosh, or for example an exhaust and a remap a better bet cash per bang.

Don't know about Subaru but remaps to other vehicles are virtually untraceable and why would a dealer want to not work anyway?

Thoughts?

MY05 Blob = Good

Yes, you can get similar/higher performance gains from a variety of other tuning products, but as I said, in the event of a major claim the dealer may well be forced into the car being offically inspected prior to the warranty holders agreeing to pay for the repair. If it's a 4k+ full engine rebuild/replacement then they will use any justifiable means to get out of paying for it, and then the dealer will send you the bill instead of them.
This is exactly what happened to a friend of mine with a Seat Leon Cupra TDi PD150. Mod'd to over 270bhp and with over 400ftlb of torque, kevlar clutch and AP 10 pots, he ran low on oil whilst on track and the engine seized. His credit card is over 5k down on the deal not allowing for the cost of the mods in the first place as he sold the car straight after its return for a price similar to a standard.

So the question is then is the PPP worth the cash or is standard good enough?

Is PPP still available for this model?

How much is it now? Still the same? How long does it take to have fitted? Does it need rolling road set up to maximise or is it max'd already?

No special offers available that anyone knows of?

AFAIK it is still available. Was 2k, but I think it can be had much cheaper now, and discounts are available via SIDC membership. I think they usually need the car for 4 hours or so to fit. It doesn't need RR-ing as it is a generic map with high safety margins.

SIDC - Subaru ? Driver Club?

What kind of discount and where from? Got to be dealer?

So can the margins be tightened afterwards without detection by the Subaru police?

What exactly was in the PPP again?

personally I would take the risk and go for independent mods as opposed to the PPP which though good is overpriced considering the bang for your buck you could get elsewhere.

I risked the warranty and won, you might be unlucky, it's your choice...

The S.I.D.C offer only applies to the WRX not the STI unfortunatly.
The list price is £1995, it would be up to an induvidual dealer what discount, if any, they would do for you. I would guess £100-150 roughly if they did.
It does make the car more drivable, so if you wanted to keep the warranty its worth doing, but you can get cheaper alternatives.
As said above "you pays your money, you takes your choice"
