Default Tickover problem

Hi, my first post, hope you can help.
My MY 2000 impreza turbo has a very uneven tickover but drives fine otherwise. Just been serviced including new plugs ( correct ones I believe ). Starts from cold with tickover racing at approx 1500 revs ( so I guess not the lambda sensor ) then after a few minutes settles to about 1000 and then becomes uneven up and down as though trying to stall. Top end is fine. The problem seems to have come on gradually over a few months. I have tried pouring the old snake oil, I mean reddex in the petrol to clean the injectors but no joy.
I would be grateful for the recommendation of a good independent to sort this out in or near London SW19 as my experience of main dealers has not been great.
Anyway enjoying the forums, grateful for any help
