Serious engine question
I Have some Bo*****d heads with solid lifters and shims (top hat)
and some heads that have hydraulic lifters (all heads are circa 1994-1996)
Question is, can I use the solid lifters and shims in the heads designed for hydraulic ones?
got the shims sorted, so that is not a problem.
Has anyone sucessfully done this?
Thanks
Adam.

I think its more will they fit rather than work, the early heads have a sleeve where the hydraulic lifters sit making the area very slight narrower than the later when i compared this with the later shims etc i had laying about it wouldnt fit together without some work.

the head castings of the same year are the same so yes as long as you use all the parts from the solid lifters heads in the head casting of the hydraulic you should have no problems.
I have done exactly that only I have 98 head castings with 97 Sti solid lifters and cams etc.. compare the cams I would be interested to know if the solid lifter ones have different lift and duration.
