ECU question
At what stage is it essential to change from Ecutek to an aftermarket ecu?
I have a v7 STI, engine re-built using RCM HC Omega pistons crank flywheel etc STI9 heads. Still on 550's and standard vf30 getting around 350bhp/340lbs (full de-cat), Thinking of going 650's, gt30 and 3" system next would it be worth changing the ECU at this stage or no point?
Cheers for any input

Properly mapped, the Ecutek is capable of doing almost anything required of it. Ecutek have recently extended the features and ability on their latest software. You have already paid the licence fee with your first mapping so if you are happy to get the mapper to remap it for any changes to your spec then you have no need to go to an aftermarket ECU.
Have a word with Bob Rawle.
The main reason for an aftermarket ECU in place of an Ecuteked O/E ECU is to allow the owner access to the ECU so that using a lap top and software supplied with the ECU, he can make map changes himself. This comes in to its own when you are making frequent changes or conducting trials to determine what works and what does not as only Ecutek franchisees are supposed to have access to the Ecutek software/ ECU.
