Default Speed signal sensor or sender.

Does anyone know where the speed signal sensor or sender is situated? I have a problem with the speedo not working and the car being in safe mode and won't rev over 4.5k. I had narrowed it down to being the lower part of the speedo cable between the mph convertor and the gearbox. The only other thing i haven't checked is the speed signal sensor or sender. I have driven along with the clocks out and the spindle that turns the speedo dosen't move. Does this mean its the cable or could it be the sender?

Any help would be much appreciated.

James
