New car, how I know which clocks??
Hi there, Im new to site and this is my first thread! Anyway, I have just paid a deposit on a 1994 WRX imported 2 years ago. Apparently, when it was imported, it was fittes with the MPH clock face to get through the SVA, but hasnt had the clocks fully converted, they still go up in KPH. How do I know whether I need a mechanical or electronic converter, as Id like toget the converter before I pick the car up? Also are they difficult to convert? BTW, its an early 94 model with the red trimmed interior etc...

mechanical converter it's a cable.. however your speed will then be out of the display if you add the converter.. as currently it displays MPH..

If it still has the kph clocks it should read upto 180. They then normally fit a converter then stick a 'mph' sticker over the 'kph' on the clock face.
this will usually also remove the 112mph speed limiter
The cheaper way is just to replace the 180kph clocks with 120mph faces and leave the 112mph speed limiter in place.

I believe we are talking about the same thing...
clock face either with a sticker over the orignal or the original remove and replaced.. but both only effecting the display the needle swings on.. not removing the limiter at 112mph or altering the odometer

I can probably sort it myself, but my Dads mate has been a mechanic at Dennis Common since he left school, so Ill see if he can have a look when I pick it up. So, f the clocks arent fully converted, does that mean the cars still restricted? I thought it was just electronic clocks that were restricting, and that mechanical ones were done some other way?? I must be misinformed..

sort of..
mechanical speedo with electrical output connected to the ecu which restricts it to 112mph.. it can be mapped out, electronically de-limited or you can put a mechanical converter on the speedo which as the needle show mph on the standard speedo face rather than kms (although not if the face had been changed) and moves the limiter to 180mph.. rather than the current 180kms..
