Default Knock Sensor

Hi guys
My 1995 WRX has come up with the CEL so I decided to read the code. It is indicating that it is the knock sensor.
What does this mean?? Is it safe to drive the car? And will I need to replace the knock sensor??
Please help! Thanks

I'm awaiting delivery of a new knock sensor.

It sits on the block and listens for detonation, if it hears it it reports to the ecu and then the ignition is retarded.

If its coming up on the ecu as an error then the sensor is not responding to the ecu as it should, remedy, replace with a new one.
