I pay a tenner, cash in hand, to a local well known exhaust centre.

They do a good job, clean the ends, then seal it up.

Hmm... I usually drive it up one side of the kerb as I don't fancy lying underneath it with it supported by just a jack.

Either do that or get yourself some proper stands from e.g. halfords. Shouldn't cost you a bomb, and hopefully you won't be crushed if your jack falls over

Edit: but it is really easy... Even a numpty like myself did it in about 15 minutes

That's like charging 180 an hour, nearly the same as hourly rate for a remap - but without any skill lol.

I just went to a local exhaust place on my way home as they were running down for the day, 10quid cash in his pocket.

Almost as bad as that well known high street motoring accessories shop that charges a fortune for some 17yo spotty numpty with a nova to fit a headunit.

Absolutely - always make sure its supported correctly. But if your comment was on the back of my post then please note I also omitted using spanners to undo the bolts

It sits in between the 2 pipe flanges and ensures a good seal - a couple of £ from a dealer

thats all well and good fitting it yourself, but if the bolts have heat seized thats another matter,9 times out of 10 the bolts need burning off!!no good grovling around under the car,you need it up on a ramp!!a garage should do it for no more than £15!!
