Default drive shafts

hello my girlfriends brother has got a 2 litre sport 99year impreza when on full lock to the right it is knocking and the wheel is clicking quite bad a garage has had a look and said more than likely it is the diff. he said one drive shaft has been changed but it is really loose and you can move side to side more than normal but the other side is really tight hardly no movement, just wondering if someone has put a turbo shaft in and would it make a difference, thinking of changing both shafts to new sport ones just wondering what anyone thinks if it is worth doing this or get a new diff, it is having a clutch soon so will be sorting it then it is the front ones cause i forgot to say thanks for any advice

Simple stuff first!
most likely one of the drive shaft cv's.

1
Check the roll pin is in the cv next to the gearbox on both sides. This is a knock-in pin. It must be there of things will be loose and knocking!
2
If above ok:
Grab the driveshaft buy the HUB cv. It should be free of movement along the shaft length. Sounds like one is from your words?
The CV is held in place by a small C clip which might have come free on the loose one.

Make a call to David at Welcome to the API website he has racks of shafts, reasonable price and really knows what he is about (he has just sorted my driveshafts for me!)
His over night postage is legendary!

Simple job to replace the shafts if you are handy with car spannering.
