Default Heatshield removal

Hi my scooby has a rattle on lifting off mainly, have done some reading on the forum and seems heatshield is the common cause.
After inspecting the car and tappin the heatshied underneath(the one next to the oil filter, not sure what its called?)it seems as though this maybe the problem. Before i jack the car up to get right under, can someone tell me what tools are needed, how many bolts and can this be left off without causing problems?

Regards ossett

IMHO its best to leave it in place (the exhaust passes very close to the oil filter).

When you get under you should be able to see which join has broken. Remove the bold and refit with a washer, about 10p size. Do it up tight and that should be enough. IIRC the bolt will be 12mm.
