Default Power upgrade questions!

My TD04 turbo is starting to whine a bit so I am looking to change it probably for a TD05 as there seem to be plenty around reasonably priced. My intentions over the next few months would be to uprate the fuel pump/ injectors and get it remapped.

In the interim will the new turbo work as a straight swap without remapping?

The engine has 100k miles on it, it has had a full history and I know it has never been driven that hard. Is a power upgrade just going to kill the engine? would there be any precautionary engine work I should look at?

Any opinions/input is appreciated as usual

The td05 will need a ecu map to suit so your better off upgrading altogether.
You can get "scoobyecu's" that will boost a tdo5 to 1.1 bar with standard pump and injectors.
If you intend getting bigger injectors to up the boost to more than this then you may well need to look at upgrading the IC.

mine is a 97 R so according to scoobyecu.co.uk it will not suit. Is that really just reference the turbo? I take it that it will suit mine if I change to a TD05

To get the most out of it you need to remap, but that means an ECU change on your year of car.

You should (not saying will) be OK if you run the TD05 at 1bar using a MBC.

Not sure for your model then your better off speaking to a mapper.
