MD321T V's MD321L

MD321T V's MD321L
Having just had a 2.5 built by APi, I've just had the figures back from my mapper Bob Rawle. (which if you read on you'll see why I wanted to share them!!)
During the build, I had a rather "wasted" dilema. I was undecided on which turbo to choose; the MD321T or the MD321L. I was looking to achieve a comfortable 400/400 which the MD321T would easily give, but with the thought of getting even more power, I was tempted to go for the MD321L.
Anyway, I decided not to push my luck and I went for the 321T.
After a session with Bob, we saw 452 bhp and a massive 477 lb/ft of torque!!
And to think I was worried about what turbo to go for!!!! Now I just wonder what would the 321L have given me?? 500/500??
Thanks to both David and Bob by the way.

Good luck with that, Nice figures.
Just think, the 321L might have made you buy bigger brakes and a better suspension set and a better clutch ! Oh !! the opportunities I miss here.
Enjoy it. Good Luck and thanks for the power update

Well its a 2.5 US block with Wiseco forged pistons, Steel Eagle conrods, STI Type USA crankshaft, STI 5 heads, competition baring set, kevlar cam belt, APS front mounted intercooler, RCM induction kit and exhaust, STI manifold and MD321T turbo on EcuTek. (David, please correct me if I'm wrong or if I've forgotten anything!!)
It also has a 6 speed STI box and an Exeedy clutch.

Impressive figures, same motor as mine
Std STi heads or ported?
What boost profile?
I presume the figures are from DD Road Dyno? Can you post the plot?

Seems to be a good spec of build this nowadays....
Must get my finger out and get mine done....
Very nice figures there...
BTW, is it in a classic or newage..?

Very nice figures there Scooby400, that torque must be quite impressive!! I'm running an MD321 (no suffix) on a new age JDM 2.0l and ran 402bhp at powerstation. Peak boost is around 3800 on the rollers, but I reckon it's a bit better on the road. I'd post the graph up but it's a pdf, so not sure how.

Andy,
Bob takes the data, and puts it into Excel.
Am I right in saying that the Road Dyno graphs look like they are suffering from the DT's, because the recording granularity is pretty poor ?
Have you got a graph of the MD321T you did recently ?
Mark.

Road dyno graphs are a bit spikey due to the ECU outputting the data when it 'has the time' rather than at an exact frequency.
I have a few MD321T graphs, also mapped one just yesterday in Ireland. I don't have them with me at home just now though.

Jay,
10-12 bhp on 400bhp is really neither here, nor there, when it comes to rolling roads. You could go back on, and depending on various things, you could either lose 10bhp, or gain 10bhp over the last run.
In reality, you can lose/gain more than that from one day to another, depending on the weather, and fuel you have in the tank.
Mark.

There is more to getting a realistic power figure from using Road Dyno than just bashing accurate car data in.
However.... from comparisons I have done, I have found it to be fairly consistant with the MAHA Rolling Road when adding circa 22% for tranmission loss.

Bob explained to me when he did my car that the wibbles and wobbles in the graph are caused by uneven road surface, bends etc etc.
No apparent way to smooth out the kinks, i'm told, it's just what you get. I believe that Bob now does it for all cars that he maps, as a matter of course. It does give the customer something to cling on to until it can get to the rollers.
I am sure Bob will put me right, if I've got it wrong as usual.
