Default Boost gauge problems - help please

Please can anyone help - i've recently had some work done & the garage neglected to re attach the boost gauge pipe.

I had a good look round under the bonnet and found a breather pipe on the manifold - as in the picture but it is to the rear of the manifold, the pipe is pointing towards the turbo.

A couple of queries.

Q1 - SHOULD THIS PIPE BE LEFT OPEN? AS WHEN I PUT MY FINGER OVER IT, IT IS SUCKING IN AIR!

Q2 - WHEN I CONNECT THE BOOST GAUGE PIPE TO THIS IT WORKS THE GAUGE BUT EVERY TIME I LIFT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE RPM DROPS TO 0 AND VERY NEARLY STALLS, THEN BACK UP TO NORMAL IDLE RPM, WHY IS THIS?

p.s. i've tried shutting off this pipe & it gives me the same idling problem as when the boost gauge is attached. It runs perfectly with the pipe open to atmosphere but i cant help feeling this is wrong???

I know i can cut into one of the other pipes with a t section but i dont want to do this as i will end up with a leak.

Any ideas or sugestions will be appreciated.

Cheers

Please help people.

hard to see because of the arrow, but it looks like the boost pipe is missing from the turbo nose.................
this is very important as its the signal feed to control the actuator to tell it when to open..........
