Question HELP - INFO ON FMIC'S

Hi, I need a little advice on what to do with my car.

it currently runs at about 1.4 boost and dies off around 1.5. I've been told this is because of the turbo getting to hot and so a FMIC would help.

Also been told that instead of FMIC I could just upgrade the TMIC.

Which would be best and would either give me more bhp?

It's a 97 wrx import and it's been decatted

cheers

The VF turbos tend to do this. The TD05's have more lag but keep the boost thru' the rev range. Maybe this could be the cause.
FMIC is definately the way forward as running temps will be lower.

By Dying off I mean that the Turbo stops working at 1.5 but I haven't redlined of the revs at that point if this makes sense

The cars an import so i don't know whats been done to it so far

Indeed FMIC will cool the charge better than a TMIC, especially as you are running quite high boost.

So when you say the turbo stops working do you mean it then cuts out? like your hitting a rev limit? if so it could be somthing else.

Thanks for your help so far

I'll try to explain a bit better, the turbo kicks in at about 3k revs, and then by the time I get to about 6k revs the turbos hit its highest boost and wont go any further, but the car doesnt redline of the revs until about 8k, does this help.

Also will getting an FMIc give me much turbo lag?

Well there isn't really anythign wrong there?

Not trying to be funny or anything but do you know how a turbo works?

In an ideal world the turbo would reach max boost in a few seconds, the turbo doesn't spool the same as your engine revs, it spools as quick as it can!

An FMIC will give you slightly more lag, but this could be controlled with a good map.

don't know if it's been mapped - its an import so got no history with it really.

how much difference will that make - would it feel wrong if it hasn't been?

sorry like i said before i don't mean to sound thick

If you are unsure of anything (better safe than sorry) get it on a rolling road and let an expert make sure its not running lean or anything like that. 1.5 is quite high boost so you assume it must have had a few mods in Japan but like i say its better to be safe than sorry!

If your car has the standard turbo (probably vf24), it should be ok on the TMIC. The boost you are running however is not standard and has been upped. You need to check whats been added to run higher boost, and whether or not its been done safely.
