Question NEW CLUTCH

Exactly how hard is it to fit a clutch to a '95 jdm impreza? i have the clutch kit ready to go but have no experience of clutches, although i am mechanically minded, just wondering wether to have a go myself or empty my pockets for the best part of £200 for labour charges, what do you think?

Search and you'll find many topics.

My clutch went before xmas, bought a new exedy organic one and a lightened flywheel at the same time from API. Can be done DIY but is a big job, the preferred way of doing it is to take off the exhaust centre section, driveshaft etc and drop the gearbox out of it. I opted for the garage and they charged £250.

done mine with a mate and took us about 4 hours ! easy job but very heavy box , a lot easier then removing engine which some people prefer doing ! just remember to get the flywheel skimmed at the same time !

subaru would say that though as they cost over £300 for a new flywheel ! most people will skim them for about £25 which is a huge saving on buying a new one , got mine done when i done my clutch as most people on here will tell you to get your flywheel skimmed before fitting your new clutch, i didnt know that until i read loads of threads about it ! but if you can afford one then get a new one but better still get a lightened flywheel instead !

In my opinion impreza clutchs are easy, depends how mechanically minded you are. Box is fairly heavy but not too bad wi 2 people. If you never done clutch before tho maybe easier to get garage to do it. here you based mate.

I need to replace my clutch as well so is there any advantage in getting the AP one ? Is it worth the extra money ? (assuming it cost more than a standard replacement one). Cheers Andy.
