Default RR Results - The Way Ahead?

Okay, so the car was on the RR yesterday at Clive Atthowes in Norwich, and the results are:

291.9Bhp @ 5379rpm
300lb/ft @ 5034rpm

MY02 STI Prodrive Style PPP - Otherwise standard.

Which I'm told are quiet respectable figures for a PPP'd STI; however, I was told the ECU has retarded the ignition slightly (not enough to cause a problem but still...) and my choice in fuel has been suggested as a possible cause ( @ me!). Hoping that the change in fuel will sort that out.

Now, I've ordered a Green panel filter, not because I'm expecting any massive gains (too old and cynical for that), but it can't hurt.

So! The way forward! I'm not after huge power - this car is my only car, and as such I need reliability.

I was thinking of an uprated fuel pump and a remap. Is there anything else without going down the route of bigger turbos, larger injectors and the like.

Ian.

Have the same car as you, Yep a panel filter, exhaust, remap and fuel pump should see you to around the 330bhp mark. Its not only out and out bhp, The drivability of the car will be so much better. Yes well worth doing it.

As Turbotits there, but as discussed by Mike from Prodrive recently (well a few times lol) there's little point in changing your PPP high flow cat downpipe as you wont see much gain over that with a full decat and will be a pain at MOT time.

Fuel pump, I've been advised, worth the 80quid for 'piece of mind' safety aspect if you go any further with a remap, although I think the STi pumps are quite strong.

The ECU has obviously detected knock at some point and 'sorted' it (thank you ECU !!). Does the newage ECU also correct itself back if you change fuel without a reset, 'retarded the ignition' seems to imply that it did it and kept it that way.

The fuel pump is uprated as part of the PPP so no need to change for your goals!

Porting the headers would be a good idea before going ahead with the remap.

What he said ^^^
Realistically, all you can do without getting into the realm of bigger turbos is port the headers and get the car custom remapped. Should see you to about 330bhp and similar torque.

First and foremost though, what fuel are you using?

IIRC yes; it retards and advances without need for intervention from the user

It was the pre 99 classic ECUs that needed a reset to negate the ignition retardation.

Yip, I belive the IAM was at 11 rather than 16. It was suggested this was due to fuel, so I've swapped over to V-Power. I've only had the car a week so it's anyones guess what the previous owner was filling it on.

I was told it wasn't a major issue (I presume in the major issue sense of my engine blowing up!) and should sort itself out.

Re: Cats - from both what Mike has said on here, and Clive Atthowe said when I was getting the car RR'd, there is obviously little point in decatting. Not that I had any real intention of doing that anyhow!

He said he could if I wanted him to, but seeing as I had a reasonable amount of fuel in there it seemed pretty pointless to me. I've filled her back up today with V-Power, so was going to pop out in a bit and reset the ECU myself.
