Default DCCD location/removal

Can anyone tell me if the dccd which I have on my ra can be separated from the gearbox or is it actually part of it? I have been told it is located at the rear of the gearbox???

The DCCD unit is actually the Centre diff, its located in the transfer case at the rear of the gearbox. It can be seperated for it's current box and installed onto the rear end of another one if the current one is knackered.

The DCCD is loacted in the rear part of the box which is split off in this pic.
This box is a non DCCD one but the casing will be similar.

Thank you for such a quick reply and for the pic!!! It doesn't seem to be a huge job to replace it, or am I being a bit naive?

If the DCCD it's self is broken then i think you are going to have a job finding another one, as they are quite in demand as an upgrade for non DCCD cars.
I think the transfer box can be removed in situ on the car but if i were to do it i would take the box out to make life easyer. If you are just bolting on a complete new transfer case then there should be no clearences that need adjusting however if you are putting a new DCCD centre diff into the current transfer case then there are a couple of shims that would need checking to give proper clearances on the output gears, not difficult to do if you have the proper information.

If you are thinking of doing this yourself have a look for my project thread called 'Project Slow Evolution' it documents the installation of my PPG gear kit so has some useful gearbox links, pics and info.
