Default At what BHP does a 2.5 inch system become a restrictive

Yet another question from me.

Have a few mods planned for the new year and currently have a H&S full decat, up and down pipes are decat.

At what level do you need to start considering a 3 inch system?

Or is this something that is beneficial at any stage, can you go to big too soon with exhausts?

Cheers

I'm sure someone on here was running 500bhp with a 2.5 system.

Cookie - the 3 inch system will flow better than the 2.5 but wont be costing any power until over 350 i think. (Why is it that 350 is the point for all of the major mods??) Above that figure, it will make a small difference power wise but a nice difference sound wise

I am running Milltek 3 inch full decat btw

Agree with Dynamix.
I was told a 3'' on a sub 350bhp engine was wasted, but essential on an over 350 bhp engine.

Plus if you stay under 350, you get to keep your gearbox and possibly clutch. After 350 it seems to be a slippery slope.

I think the answer is, it becomes more of a restriction sooner if you retain a cat. Not too much of a worry, yet, in this country. The cat retains/adds heat to the exhaust and so needs extra volume for at least the next bit of the exhaust system.
