Default Leaking LHS rocker gasket

Is this a concern? Got back from a week away and took the car out for a jolly. At the end of the run noticed there was some grey smoke coming from LHS of the engine, and on closer inspection there is a small leak on the left hand rocker (at the top) which had dripped onto the exhaust. It is nothing major (my old Mk2 Golf GTi was far worse!) but what sort of money am I looking at for a fix?

Also have a 2.5 4CAM Legacy and have never had this problem before, but is it common?

Thanks

Both my scoobs have had this problem so I would say yes its pretty common, apparently subaru dealers use good quality instant gasket to cure the leak rather than replacing the gaskets.

If it’s something you can do yourself I would think 10-20 For the gaskets and an hours or so work. Once the covers are of the new gaskets fit nicely into the cover so you should be able to do from underside with out to much trouble.

Agree with above, rocker covers are a common fault, particularly the drivers side, due to heat from the turbo effecting the rubber gasket.

IIRC the gaskets are £11+vat each from subaru, and depending on your state of tune (air filter wise) it only takes an hour or two each side.

Thanks for that. Have a service coming up so will get it looked at then. Have not attempted work on the car yet apart from replacing back box, but having done all the engine work to my old Golf I probably should have a go myself. Getting lazy in my old age! Also my local Scoob specialist is very good value............

When fitting gasket on, is it advisable to use gasket sealer as well on the flat face before fitting and securing
