To cut a long story short, I booked my UK 2000 in today for a pre-MOT service. I was to take the car to a well known Scooby place to get in MOT'd tomorrow.

Wife takes the car in for the service, explains again that it for a pre MOT service, then phones me at 16:15 to say it been serviced and she has the MOT pass cert.

I was amazed, firstly they was not supposed to MOT it, and secondly it has a full DECAT - but still passed. Engine would have been cold to as it's only 1/2 mile from my house.

Happy but confused. Surely it should have failed

 

They may not have noticed it didn't have a cat in place....the key thing is that it passed the emissions test, which some de-catted cars can do.


There's no point in putting a car in for a "pre-mot" test....most garages give you a free re-test if it fails anyway, hence why they've given you a pass certificate due to no faults being found.

At the same garage I would agree, but the place I took the car to, were just ment to change the oil,tyres etc and check for potential faults. If it had failed on emissions, like I expected it to, then they would not be able to supply a cattted section to retest it with.

Hence pre-mot test, and then long journey to another place to MOT it with a catted section in place.
