Just put engine back together after changing head gaskets, replaced the oe ones with steel which were a lot thinner, started it up and there is knocking could this have something to do with the gaskets?
Thanks

Did it drop the oil when the head gasket went. If so it may have damaged the big end bearings causing it to knock, which is what happened to mine so i had to rebuild the engine.

You wouldn't be able to tell if it was the bottom end without stripping the whole engine down, but you can generally tell by the sound of it as it is a definate loud knocking sound. I can't imagine that anyone with any sense would skim so much off of it that tthe valves are hitting the pistons. Is possible though especially if you have used thinner head gaskets. You should really be using thicker ones if anything.

Is the cambelt definately timed up right with all of the marks in the right place, because they could be hitting if the cambelt is a couple of teeth out.
