Clutch or something else?
Hi, I've looked through the search already, but I can't find anything which seems to be like my problem.
First off, its 1994 WRX, Probably 250bhp ish.
From stand still, if I boot it in 1st and hit high revs (6700rpm), then quickly go into 2nd, the revs wont drop straight away and the car isn't pulling at all, so I have to wait for the revs to come down so I can go into 3rd.
It can also do this 3rd to 4th!
For example, I was going along a straight road and I thought I'd over take the car infront which was going too bloody slow, so I dropped it into 2nd gear, then went into 3rd and the revs got stuck high, I was like come on!!!! Why isn't the revs dropping, and If I do go into 3rd, the revs stay high, so i'm going pretty much nowhere just revving.
This is dangerous especially when your on the wrong side overtaking.
Also, I'm finding it difficult getting into reverse, which has only just started.
Are these two problems related?
Hope someone understands my yabbeting and can help me!
Thanks

Sounds like the worlds heaviest flywheel to me!
But seriously, if the engine is reving on its own maybe the throttle cable is getting snagged somewhere when you give it full hoof, or it needs oiling/replacing. Get someone to stamp the pedal (obviously while its not running) while you watch the throttle body to see if it returns fast or slowly.
Other than that maybe its an ecu fault?

An test I learned many years ago for a knackered clutch on my old escort was to start the car, put the handbrake on full. Stick it in first at just above idle and drop the clutch quickly-ish (dont just leap off the pedal lol). If the revs drop slowly till the car stalls then the clutch is slipping. If it stalls immediately (in a learner driver styleee) then clutch has bitten correctly and is fine.
I've no idea if this is recommended with a scoob tho (or any car !) - so dont try it yet incase someone screams "Nooooo Dont Dooo It" ! I'm sure there are less brutal ways of testing it.
