Strange smell in the car
Hi all
I have what appears to be an exhaust smell in the car which is very noticeable when the care is stationary. However its not as strong as the normal exhaust smell. When you get out the car it smells even worse outside but again not the normal exhaust smell. Someone said it could be the cat converter but Im not sure. Could it be that or perhaps a problem with the air condition? The exhaust seems to be fine. No excess blowing sounds anywhere.
Thanks for any advice.
Oh yeah, 1997 non turbo rx Impreza!

I get the same thing, but not all the time. It's always done it, although I've only had it a year - Prodrive WR Sport.
I find a good blast generally shifts it which makes me think it's Cat related.

Cam covers leaking and dripping oil onto the exhaust ?
I had offside drive shaft rubber boot split and to start with just a little smoke and smell, I thought it was cam cover until the boot went big time and threw it's grease all over the cat / down pipe.
Huge pong and smoke screen James Bond would have been proud of, took about 2 months to burn that off :-)

So seems like a trip to the garage or would an exhaust specialist be my first port of call?
