As the wet nights roll in, I have failed to find a decent windsreen washer additive for my Scooby as all attempts have resulted in that traditional greasy smear. Each time I wash the car, I wipe the windscreen with special car glass cleaner and that works for a while until I hit the spray button. Any recommendations without resorting to paint stripping varieties!

Forget the flashy stuff and do this: When you wash the car use a small amount of washing up liquid to clean the windscreen and wipers. Washing up liquid is a very effective degreaser. Once that is done, rinse the screen and apply RainX. Use the RainX screenwash mix and you should find that the amount smearing will drop significantly. It won't get rid of all the grease, but it is the most effective way I've found.

have to agree that washing up liquid is the best way of cleaning your windscreen.
The next best thing to do if caught in the middle of nowhere (eg Wales this weekend )is to go into a service station, and use a wet paper towel or two, to scrub the screen. This has the same effect of degreasing, but requires a small amount of effort! The result of 2 mins scrubbing is better than your wipers & screenwash could ever achieve though.....

Ben recently using a Halfords won brand screen wash (don't recall the name, it's in the garage). It comes in a concentrate bottle and summer you dilute 40:1 water/wash and winter less so.

Smells lovely and really does shift cack off the screen. Very impressed.

Rainex screen adertive is good you don't need your wipers over 80mph stu

 

Don't use "Hairy Liquid" in the washer bottle though... it goes mental, foams up and it's not good for your expensive wax finish.

I use the Shell premix but only 'cos it smells like glue. It's an expensive hobby though...

I put on the Rainex over the weekend and I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet but the reports on this topic elsewhere suggest I might be gettin' the Swarfiga/mets/washing powder/washing-up liquid and vinegar out and buying gallons of Halfords branded screenwash instead. The Rainex was £6.99 for a small bottle! Maybe I should make up a cocktail comprising the above, add a reasonable aftershave and market it. "Guaranteed to remove even the tint on your screen!"

We shall see but I am not too optimistic!
