£193 FOR BOOST SOLENOID,DAWES INSTEAD?
My boost solenoid is up s h i t creek and £193 for a new one , can i fit a dawes device instead ? if so do you disconnect original solenoid and throw away or keep in connected in place and just disconnect pipes and connect to dawes instead . what do you do with the small pipe which goes from top of solenoid to inlet , blank it of?
A dawes can be used by itself, without the solenoid. It will do the job of regulating the boost quite well, but not as well as the original ecu controlled solenoid (i.e. low rpm response usually suffers). You'll need to leave the original solenoid wired in to prevent CEL errors, but apart from that is should work fine.
For the sake of 25 quid for a MBC, it's gotta be worth a shot - just don't be tempted to push the boost up too far.... ;-)

If the car has a 2-port on at the moment you will need to replace with a 2-port, not a 3-port.
Dawes will eliminate the solenoid and the ECUs ability to control boost. Setup right it can work well, but its not going to work out any cheaper.

I'm using a dawes for boost control with decat and FCD.
Personally find it excellent at holding rock steady boost within the limits of the TD04, i.e tails off at the top end. A Simon says if you go for it just watch the boost figures and don't be tempted to go mad.
Just blank of the pipe to the boost solenoid toprevent ingress into the pipework of anything incase you want to reinstate it later.
Any questions, dropm me a line
Cheers

dawes will give you best possible spool up given that the wategate shut until it reaches the threshold. It just tails off at the top.
Steady boost control and easy fix, as said, just don't go nuts with the boost
