tried almost everything......still not 100%
Hi James (
), I assume you have a 320bhp WRX?
If so, I also assume that it's been modified and mapped at some point?
I had my WRX remapped a while back and not long after started getting surging and hesitation problems coming on boost that could only normally be felt by the driver (me
) but on occasion also by passengers.
I took it back to the people that mapped it and they found a problem with the main ignition and ignition correction maps working against each other instead of working together.
Might be worth a trip back to the mapper? A long shot as I don't know your car/circumstances but a starting point.

yes mate thats the car.
it is modified and therefore i guess must have been mapped....where and when though i have no idea???
its actually superb on full boost, its just at low revs it happens.

Hmmmmm. You could try taking to a mapper so they can get it on a rolling road to see if there's anything obvious going on in the maps.
It sounds like you've looked at the obvious 'mechanical' problems. You haven't changed the type of fuel you put in it recently? Going from Texaco to BP or Esso made mine feel jittery.
edit: I'm not an expert but hopefully someone else will come along with some good advice shortly... :-)

Might it not have been mapped for higher octane fuel? Maybe it's retarding the ignition to compensate for the lower octane?
Like Trap2, not an expert but may be something worth investigating if possible.

Have you tried a good quality fuel cleaner , I use forte and have had good results..My M.O.T emissions were one of the lowest he had seen on a scooby.
It may be that your injectors are slightly fodded up.
Worth a try..

Aftermarket VTA dump valve fitted?
My classic was extremely jumpy when hitting boost due to a faulty spring inside the dump valve. Repalced it with the oem dv and it cured the problem.

I Have also had similar problems in the past. my car is a `94 wrx with around 330bhp. and i found the fuel to be the problem. as i`m sure you know. you can`t run an import on standard unleaded. as i found out the hard way. i found that when using shell optimax the low rev jumpyness dissapeared. I forgot to tell my better half this important fact and she filled it with tesco`s cheapest, then i decided to drive a bit too fast and i melted one of the pistons. OOPS
Running that much power you should always use optimax/v power fuel to get less knock etc my mate has a 300bhp wrx and uses optimax and octane booster cos in japan there fuel is about 100ron ! try connecting the two black wires under your dash to see if you get a fault code flash , if your not sure drive down to brighton and i will show you how to do it and can get you the part at trade cost from subaru if need be !! i had similar prob and it was engine coolant sensor £28

right - took it to the garage today and NO faults have come up.
so far also, since i filled up with v power, and put some reddex through it, last night and this morning it has drove fine. bloody strange! Problem solved - yipeeee;
