Lambda sensor / Downpipe

Lambda sensor / Downpipe
I have a MY2000 Turbo with a dodgy lamdba sensor (intermittant engine warning light). Dealer can't unscrew the old lambda sensor from the downpipe and is worried he will strip the thread if he tries harder. Basically says I need a new downpipe and lamdbs sensor - total quote £ 750
The engine warning light only comes on intermittently and its just passed the MOT - should I just ignore it. The car is running smoothly. I even checked the mileage for the first time for years and I'm getting about 27/28
If I do replace, what is the recommendation, for lamdba sensor and downpipe - the OEM kit seems very expensive - if I get a straightthrough downpipe will I get through the MOT ??
Thanks for any advice/experience on this.

Does idle hunt on the car?, have you tried doing a diagnostics on the car to confirm that the lamda sensor really is knackered ?
a decat or straight trough downpipe will have a hole to fit a new lamda sensor, it should be enough to have the center cat in place for MOT and pass.
otherwise if the diagnostics doesnt show anything it might be historical fault codes showing as engine warning light
reset the ecu to get rid of those old codes and see if the engine warning light stops
here is the link to diagnostics and ecu reset

good luck
