Default Gear Engagement

I have noticed that invariably our 05 WRX is reluctant to engage 1st or reverse from start up. is this normal ? it feels that one day soon I am going to snap the gearstick. it's still under warranty (UK Car). 33k miles

mine is a bit like that in the winter months. Mostly I just get a bit of a clunk changing down to 2nd, other than that it's not too bad

Got exactly the same problem on my 05 WRX Sportswagon. Spoke the dealer about it and they kinda gave me the impression that this was quite common. Car goes in for a service tomorrow, and they said that they will look into it.

Will let you know how I get on

Well she went in and they played around with her... TBH its not as bad as it was and it feels like the biting point is now a little lower - me thinks they just tightened up the clutch cable.
