Default can anything cause a radiator to split?

As per title, noticed car getting hotter than usual today with no change in driving style got 94c whilst stationary, usually only get 92 max before it drops down to about 86-87.
Got home and the water level is low so I refilled her (probably just less than 2 litres) and started her up.

Noticed a slight crack on the rad end tank under the top rad hose. Thing is this has happened previously as well in the same sort of place. The replacement rad I got was second hand so I suppose it could just be coincidence, but is there anything that could attribute to it?

Oil levels are fine and the car seems fine in any other way, no smoke or anything in fact runs quite sweet.

any ideas ?

Mine went in the same place. Seems to be an inherent weakness, judging by the search I did afterwards. I replaced with an alloy rad from Pace. Cost more than the std, but worth it I thought. I also replaced the coolent pipes with silicone ones afterwards as the top hose split a couple of weeks later....

Common fault - get a new aftermarket one. Bought my new one off eBay they are strengthened in the area where the std ones split.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-A-NEW-R...QQcmdZViewItem

Cost £105.45

Been on the car a year with no probs excellent quality and fit. (there are now cheaper ones @£99.99 from other suppliers on eBay)
